Sania Mirza came from one set down to win her second round match against Tatiana Pouchek. Sania Mirza is seeded number 5 for this tournament and is understandably the crowd favorite since the Sony Ericsson WTA tournament is being played in her home country.
The winner of the Bangalore open wins $1,70,000 in prize money which is a pretty hefty amount. When the press asked about the initial inconsistency shown in her game Sania said tongue in cheek, “The crowd was so good here, I decided to entertain them for a while.”
After much rumors about Sania Mirza playing with Mahesh Bhupati in mixed doubles, it has now been made offcial atleast by one side. Mahesh Bhupati confirmed at a training session at his academy in Nagpur yesterday.
The duo have played together and won the Afro Asian Gold for India in 2003, and now they will try to follow up that glory at the Grandslams too. Mahesh and Sania will play in the Mixed doubles event at the French Open as well as Wimbledon.
We don’t know if Sania chose Mahesh over Paes or not, but Leander had already commited to play out this season with his mixed doubles partner, Samantha Stosur.
